BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Recent developments during the ongoing public inquiry by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of Parliament have raised serious concerns about the integrity and fairness of the process by some MCP members.
It was revealed that the Chairperson of the PAC, Steve Malondera, who is also a Member of Parliament representing the Malawi Congress Party (MCP), may have compromised the inquiry by sharing pre-formulated questions with former State House Chief of Staff Prince Kapondamgaga ahead of his appearance before the committee.
This action is viewed as an attempt to give undue advantage to a fellow party affiliate who served under the administration of former President Lazarus Chakwera, thereby undermining the credibility of the inquiry.
Concerns were notably raised by Noel Lipipa, Member of Parliament for Blantyre Chilomoni.
During the proceedings, Lipipa observed that Kapondamgaga’s responses appeared unusually well-prepared, suggesting prior access to the questions.
Additionally, Lipipa highlighted procedural irregularities, including the Chairperson’s restriction of follow-up and supplementary questions from committee members.
This limitation prevented deeper scrutiny and raised suspicions about the fairness of the session.
These concerns were not isolated, as other members of the committee also expressed dissatisfaction with how the session was conducted.
The manner in which the proceedings were handled has led to growing suspicion that the Chairperson may have acted in a biased manner.
Such allegations, point to a broader issue of political interference and attempts to shield certain individuals from full accountability.
This undermines public trust in parliamentary oversight mechanisms and weakens democratic institutions.
Malawians are closely observing these developments and increasingly demanding transparency, fairness, and accountability in the ongoing probe.
