BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-United Transformation Movement (UTM) President Dalitso Kabambe has made a bold declaration, calling his party the ‘Balm in Gilead’ that Malawi desperately needs to heal from what he describes as a national state of decay.

In an interview with Maravi Post,Kabambe cited Jeremiah 8:22: “Is there no balm in Gilead, is there no physician there? Why then is there no recovery for the health of the daughter of my people?”.

The UTM leader went on to say that this verse could have been written specifically for Malawi in 2025.

“Our country is sick. The economy is limping like a bicycle with square wheels. Corruption is eating away at the system like termites in a wooden cupboard.Leadership is missing like nsima without ndiwo. And the people? The people are crying, ‘Chitukuko chikunenedwacho chili kuti?,” he said.

The former Reserve Bank of Malawi(RBM ) Governor presented himself and the UTM as the much-needed remedy for the nation’s problems.

“UTM and Dalitso Kabambe are the balm in Gilead for Malawi. We are the anointed solution to a nation that has been stuck in reverse gear for too long,” said the economist.

He took aim at political recycling, rejecting the notion that previously failed leaders should be trusted again.

“To those saying, ‘Let’s try the same old leaders again,’ I say respectfully:‘Bwanji kodi? Chizolowezi chatifikitsa pomwe tili lero.’ If they failed us before, what new miracle do you expect now? You can’t cook fresh nsima with sour maize,” he added.

The UTM president argued that Malawi does not need recycled promises but rather ‘radical action’.

He called for what he termed a ‘Third Revolution’ — one driven by visionary leadership, not nostalgia for the past.

“Malawi needs a physician, a visionary, a reformer, a new captain for the ship that’s been sailing in circles,” he said.

Outlining UTM’s vision under his leadership, Kabambe pledged sweeping reforms and development initiatives, including economic transformation, job creation for the youth, and the empowerment of women.

“We will bring economic transformation that will shock even our neighbors. We will restore dignity to governance, turn jobless youths into proud earners, and uplift our women from survival mode to success mode,” he declared.

He concluded with a confident rallying cry.

“Malawi, the balm has arrived. And its name is UTM under Dalitso Kabambe. Let’s rise together and bring healing to the heart of our nation.”
