LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The United Transformation Movement (UTM) is reportedly grappling with internal conflicts ahead of the elections, as differences emerge between the party’s leadership and its original founders, including Hon. Newton Kambala.
Kambala, a prominent figure in the party, recently suggested to Dalitso Kabambe, the current leader, that UTM should form an alliance with the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) rather than contesting the elections alone.
However, this proposal has been misinterpreted by some within the party, with allegations emerging that Kambala is secretly working with DPP to undermine UTM.
The situation escalated with Kambala’s appointment as a board member, which has been perceived as a move to sideline him.
Dalitso Kabambe’s media team is reportedly targeting Kambala, aiming to frustrate him into leaving the party, under the false pretense that he is collaborating with DPP.
This development has sparked concerns about the party’s internal dynamics and its ability to present a united front ahead of the elections.
Insiders reveal that Dalitso Kabambe’s inexperience on the ground is exacerbating the situation, as some party members are questioning his leadership approach.
The controversy highlights the challenges facing UTM as it navigates its internal differences and seeks to position itself for the upcoming elections.
In an exclusive interview with The Maravi Post, UTM Publicity Secretary Felix Njawala dismissed claims of internal factionalism, labeling them as propaganda.
“There’s no way we can have two camps in UTM. People believe in ideologies in UTM, not individuals,” Njawala said, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in its ideology rather than individual personalities.
He laughed off suggestions of divisions, stating that if he were to leave UTM, he would likely take only a handful of followers with him, while the rest would remain with the party.
