Peter Mutharika vs Lazarus Chakwera

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The proposal to set a presidential age limit in Malawi between 30 and 75 has sparked intense debate.

While some argue that this limit would ensure the president remains energetic and capable of handling the demands of the office, others see it as discriminatory and undemocratic.

On one hand, setting an upper age limit could prevent older individuals from holding the presidency, potentially bringing in fresh perspectives and ideas.

However, this argument is based on assumptions that older individuals lack the mental competence and vigor required for the office, which is not supported by scientific evidence.

On the other hand, implementing an upper age limit could be seen as ageism, discriminating against individuals based on their age rather than their qualifications or abilities.

The Malawi Network of Older Persons (MANEPO) strongly opposes the proposed amendment, arguing that it infringes upon the democratic rights of all Malawians to participate in the democratic process.

Ultimately, the decision to set a presidential age limit should be based on facts and evidence, rather than assumptions or biases.

It’s crucial to consider the potential consequences of such a limit and ensure that it does not unfairly restrict the rights of any individual or group.

Behind this, are urgents of the ruling Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and it’s officials, who are admitting that MCP and it’s presidential candidate Dr Lazarus Chakwera have failed miserably and Malawians’ would by all means via for Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) presidential candidate and vote for Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, who is a proven leader, who once brought the lost track economy back to normal in Malawi from 2014 to 2020.

Let Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and Dr Lazarus Chakwera meet Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika on the ballot, on 16 September 2025.

There is need to ensure that all presidential candidates are “compus mentis”. I suggest all presidential candidates should go for a mental examination instead of age limit.
