MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) on Saturday night launched a strategic plan that is in use from 2022 and will spin up to 2027.

Speaking at Springs Gardens in Mzuzu where the launch took place, MACRA Director General Daud Suleman, said the strategic plan among other things, advocates for the expansion of MACRA’s service projects to undeserved and rural areas across the country.

“For example, in this strategic plan, there is a project aimed at introducing wifi in public places in rural areas under Yathu Yathu Broadband Cooperatives Project.

“MACRA clearly understands that the first 10 years of the Malawi 2063 implementation plan (MIP-1) recognise the ICT sector as an accelerator to achieving a robust digital economy that is globally competitive.

“To achieve that, we need universal access to ICT services and heavy investment into digitalisation equipment and infrastructure,” added Suleman.

Inkosi ya Makhosi M’mbelwa V, who was Guest of Honour at the event, congratulated MACRA for setting an example of how an organisation should strategically plan ahead for years to come.

“A strategic plan is so much more than words or sentences on a page or placed on a shelf. A strategic plan helps to actualise large-scale dreams.

“We believe this strategic plan will help MACRA to achieve its goals and provide communication services to Malawians. Without a plan, an organisation can blindly fall down for there is no mirror to check-point where the organisation is weak or strong,” he said.

Board Director, Alekeni Odala Menyani, said the strategic plan was in line with the Malawi Vision 2063.

“The strategic plan has been developed on foundations of and guidance by the Malawi Vision 2063 that recognises the significant contributions that the information and communications technology (ICT) sector offers to Malawi’s overall socio-economic development.

“The plan has four strategic pillars namely, ICT Development and Innovation, Business Processes and Operations, Human Capital and Service Delivery as well as Financial Management,” explains Menyani.
