The Malawi court in the central district of Kasungu on Wednesday, December 9, 2015 sentenced a 25 year-old man to pay MK30, 000.00 in default to 24 months Imprisonment with Hard Labour for possessing 14 Kilograms of Cannabis Sativa.
Kasungu Police Station Public Relations officer Edwin Kaunda confirmed to The Maravi Post on Wednesday, evening the sentencing of James Chilambula after being found guilty of possessing illicit substance which contravene the laws of the land.
According to the Police Publicist Kaunda the court head that on November 26, police officers Chilambula at Chisazima Roadblock in the district arrested Chilambula after being found with two bags which contained substance which was suspected to be Cannabis Sativa.
“During interrogation the convict confessed that he had bought the drug from Mzimba district and was heading with it to Ntandire in Lilongwe where there was available market. Consequently, Chilambula was remanded to Kasungu Prison on December 1, pending the analysis of the substance at Chitedze research station in the capital Lilongwe.
“The substance test was positive that it was indeed Cannabis Sativa and on December 9, the convict was brought before Kasungu First Grade Magistrate Court where he pleaded guilty to the charge of being found in possession of cannabis without permit which led Worship Midiasi sending him to jail”, said Kaunda.
James Chilambula hails from Chinomba village in the Traditional Authority (T.A) Chikumbu in southern district of Mulanje.
