LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s governance activist and Executive Director for Centre for Social Accountability and Transparency (CSAT) Executive Director, Willy Kambwandira, has hailed the recent promotion of four High Court judges to justices of the Malawi Supreme Court of Appeal.

Kambwandira said he expects the four justices to play a key role in clearing the backlog of corruption cases.

“Our courts need adequate human resources to tackle the backlog of cases, including thousands and thousands of cases bordering on corruption.

“As such, President Chakwera must be commended for promoting these judges, who I believe, will play a crucial role in clearing those cases,” he said.

But Kambwandira appealed to President Chakwera to consider appointing other judges to replace the promoted justices.

“The four justices have created a gap at the High Court. So, we ask the President to find replacements for them so that operations at the High Court are not choked by this gap,” he said.
