LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The country’s The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has given 24 hours ultimatum president Lazarus Chakwera to withdraw the newly Gazetted COVID-19 preventive measures.
The call come hours after President Chakwera failed to comply new Covid-19 measures during the funeral ceremony for the late Mai Roseby Dinala, a staunch Malawi Congress Party (MCP) supporter, where Chakwera was in attendance on Tuesday, August 12, 2020..
Hundreds attended the ceremony disregarding some measures such as reducing the number of those attending the funeral ceremony to 50, wearing masks and observing social distancing.
Addressing the news conference in the capital Lilongwe on Wednesday, August 13, 2020, CDEDI’s Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa asked Chakwera to apologize to the nation for his misconduct on the Covid-19 new measures.

“The Malawi President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has today failed to lead by example in adhering to the newly Gazetted COVID-19 preventive measures by failing to stop multitudes of people who turned up to mourn one of the longest serving members of his party, the Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
“It is total hypocrisy, therefore, for him to expect Malawians to strictly follow the preventive measures when him as the number one citizen is unable to do the same. CDEDI demands the president to withdraw the newly Gazetted COVID-19 measures and apologize to the nation,” says Namiwa.
He therefore assured the nation of his grouping putting in check Tonse Alliance government.
