BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) has asked President Dr. Lazrus Chakwera to clearly spells out the road map on how the Tonse Alliance led government will achieve the promises made during the campaign period.
The non-partisan, non-governmental organization revealed this in a press statement issued in Tuesday July 28 signed by CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa.
In the statement, Namiwa has asked the president to clearly tell Malawians the steps he intends to take in order to ensure that parliament deliberates and passes legislations that would see the presidential powers trimmed.
He has also asked Chakwera to ensure that the appointment of the Inspector General of Police (IG) and the Director of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) is done independently and not by the president and to explain what the country is going to gain from the ongoing arrests that have been launched so far.
CDEDI has also asked government to investigate some of these commercial banks, the country that took part in plundering of the country’s minimal resources and has asked the responsible bodies to respect rights and dignity of those suspected to have committed various offences while they are being investigated.
The non-governmental organization has also asked for clarification on how the 1 million jobs that Tonse Alliance promised will be tracked.
CDEDI however commended President Chakwera for his unwavering stance in tackling deep rooted corruption in the country following his recent revelation that the country has lost over one trillion Malawi Kwacha and has asked the Tonse Alliance government to truthfully and honestly start fulfilling its campaign promises.
