MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-One of Tonse Alliance partners in the just ended June 23, 2020 fresh presidential elections Freedom Party (FP) is geared to make northern region its stronghold come 2025

The party says planning to feature presidential candidate come 2025.

This was disclosed on Saturday, August 1, 2020 during a welcome ceremony of officials from various parties including Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), Alliance for Democracy (AFORD), Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and UTM that was graced by FP’s Secretary General, Steven Njovuyalema in Mzuzu.

Njovuyalema observed that defectors from other political parties to Freedom Party is a sign that the party is growing from strength to strength and it will soon become the biggest party representing the interests of the northern region.

When asked if the defection will not compromised the partnership in Tonse government, Njobvuyalema assured of strong bond to the alliance.

“We are in a building process as party ahead of 2024/2025 that the north be our stronghold. We still intact in the Tonse Alliance government.

“Remember, the party leader is former state vice president, Khumbo Kachale, so we are just preparing ourselves for anything that might come along the way in the Tonse Alliance hence the party geared to work towards the growth of the party in preparation for the coming Election in 2025”, he assured.

In his remarks, James Kishombe who contested in parliamentary elections in 2019 in Karonga Central Constituency, representing the defectors said it was high time northerners came together to rally behind the Freedom Party, which has their interests and welfare at heart.
