Tonse Alliance cracks widen further: UTM refuses welcoming Chakwera in the north

MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-Cracks in Tonse Alliance appear to be widening further as evidenced by the conduct of sympathizers of the political parties including UTM refused to welcome President Lazarus Chakwera in the northern region.

This shows that partners forming the alliance are not working together.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022 in Mzuzu upon arrival, President Chakwera was only welcomed by Malawi Congress Party (MCP) and AFORD followers.

Cracks in Tonse Alliance as UTM missing in welcoming Chakwera in the north

MCP and AFORD members only mounted party clothes around the Mzuzu roundabout which has been a norm to welcome the Head of State who is also the Tonse Alliance torch bearer.

Conspicuously missing is the UTM party cloth and flags which are not part of the hanging as well as absence of UTM followers in the whole set up.

But UTM spokesperson Frank Mwenefumbo blamed the organizers for excluding his party members upon Chakwera arrival in the north.

Chakwera is in the north for a number of state functions including inspecting crops in five districts,

Malawi leader is also expected to preside over Installation of Paramount Chief Chikulamayembe in Rumphi district and also Labour day commemorations in Mzuzu on 1st May.
