DEDZA (MARAVIPOST)—President Peter Mutharika on Saturday led thousands of Malawians from different sections of society in paying their last respects to former Malawi Congress Party (MCP) president John Tembo’s wife, Ruth, who was laid to rest at Nthulu Village, Traditional Authority (T/A) Kaphuka in Dedza.
Speaking through Vice President Saulos Chilima, Mutharika hailed late Ruth Tembo, describing her as a virtuous woman who loved peace at all times.
Professor Mutharika said late Mrs Tembo’s humility was evident even after her death, as people from all walks of life attended her funeral.
“The late Ruth Tembo loved peace. She helped her husband, Hon Tembo both as a politician and a family man,” said the vice president.
“Her humility and calmness is evident even in her death, when people from different political parties and other sections of society have come from far and wide to attend her funeral,” he added.
The president said Malawi has lost an important person who was a pillar of strength to the Tembo family. Saying she led a quite but significant life.
He urged Malawians to emulate the life and humility of the late Mrs Tembo, said some of the notable dignitaries who attended the funeral include former president Dr Bakili Muluzi, former vice presidents Justine Malewezi and Khumbo Kachali, MCP president Lazarus Chakwera and other representatives of various political parties.
Born on 21 September, 1949 in Lesotho – which was her home of origin – late Ruth Tembo has been survived by husband John Tembo and four children, Dudu, John Jr, Themba and Dalitso.
