BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Some angry students at the university of polytechnic in Blantyre have set ablaze one of the hostels on campus.

This has come in following the demonstrations that started this morning as a result of scantiness of security on campus which has led to some students being raped, some being injured and others losing their properties last night to gunmen who invaded the hostels at 12 midnight.

The students took it to the roads this morning demanding the management to strengthen security of campus as this is third time just this month when students have complained about inadequate security on campus.

In an interview, one student in particular expressed his concern over security status of the campus.

“It’s been three weeks now since we’ve been complained to management over security status on campus. Almost every week, we have had thieves stealing our properties but management is still silent on the matter so today we’ve decided to hold demonstrations so that management can understand how serious the matter is now, “said John Malunga.

Meanwhile students have shutdown highway road blocked passage of cars and police are rushing to the scene to instill calm on the campus.
