Mangochi Police Public Relations Officer, Amina Daudi on Friday confirmed the incident and the arrest of Bwanali.

She said Bwanali is a fisherman and on April 9 he was returning home while drunk and found his wife Nancy, 32, about to prepare supper.

“The accused shouted at her wife saying she was taking longer to prepare the food which ended into a quarrel between the two,” Daudi said.

Daudi added that in the heat of the argument, Bwanali took a pot of hot water from the fire and poured it onto the face of his wife and later fled.

“Neighbours rushed the wife to Mangochi District Hospital where she was admitted and is currently receiving treatment after sustaining severe facial burns,” said Daudi.

“The suspect has now been arrested and will soon appear before court to answer acts intended to cause grievous harm charges contravening Section 235 of the Penal Code,” she said.

Meanwhile, the police are appealing for couples to settle their disagreements in a peaceful way as opposed to violence.
