MIA leads MCP youth on manual work

By Leo Mkhuwala

Youths from all southern region districts that subscribe to Malawi Congress Party (MCP), had the opportunity to be led by example, when on Saturday, the party’s Vice President, Sidik Mia, together with other party officials, took slashers in their hands and cleared the bushes around the party’s southern region headquarters in Blantyre.

The initiative dubbed ‘Tikatchetche’ and was championed by the party’s Youth Directorate, saw MCP youths in their multitude converging to their regional headquarters, where apart from interacting with their Vice President after hours of gladly embarking on manual work, had also come together, to interact among themselves and share progressive ideas over various forms of entertainment like braai, music and dances.

In his powerful message to the youth, Mia did reaffirmed the MCP’s commitment of empowering the youth by enabling them to depart from being dependent and instead graduate them into decency of self-reliance.

Mia therefore expressed his disappointment to visualize the country’s youth suffering in various forms of poverty due to high levels of unemployment, saying, “it is because the current leadership has no clear vision on how to create meaningful and sustainable plans for youth empowerment”.

He therefore stressed the reality of MCP manifesto, which puts the youth in the forefront of initiating economic emancipation towards genuine prosperity, that ensures all and not just a small section of people benefiting and prospering at the expense of the majority poor.

Also stirring the tide during the function was MCP National Campaign Director, Moses Kumkuyu who urged the party youth to positively and patiently wait for the ConCourt judgement with hope and optimism as the party believes that, at the end of the day, justice will be served.

The youthful MCP Chief Campaigner said, through the party’s tallying
expertise, MCP is aware that it won the May 21 Presidential Election and that, the mist, that surrounded the outcome of the final presidential results, was what prompted the party to knock at the court’s door in order to seek justice.

On the other hand, Kumkuyu reminded the youth about the unforgettable torching of the regional party office and the beating of youths when what he termed as ‘the usual’ suspects sent by well known political party operatives stormed the office and in the process beating innocent youths

Other speakers that added substance in the verbally imbuing mission for the youth were; Deputy National Director of Youth, Blessings Chilembwe and Regional Chairman for the South, Peter Simbi.

In an interview, one of the youths, Jane Samati, said he was particularly inspired by the party’s Veep as he humbled himself to hold a slasher in order to instill the spirit of hard work and self reliance saying, “today, my Vice President has greatly appealed to me hence left me greatly impressed.”

First of its kind in the Southern Region, if emulated and utilized, MCP would for the longest time, keep the impressive uniqueness, of modern party youths, who stands out to refuse being used by their parties to perpetrate violence by attacking innocent people just because they are political opponents
