BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Abida Sidik Mia on Friday, March 18, 2022 met Southern Region Water Board (SRWB) over court injunction on Mangochi connection water project.
The meeting aimed ironing issues surrounding the projects.
This follows the High Court’s order that stopped the board from proceeding with the implementation of the MK21 billion water extension project in Mangochi.
Three civil society organisations (CSOs) challenged the implementation of the water project at Nkhudzi Hill in Mangochi.
The CSOs have asked the court to order the board to provide them with all information, documents, drawings, feasibility studies and assessment reports in relation to the project.
In a move to mitigate the situation, Water Minister Sidik Mia swiftly moved and held a meeting with the board Water to discuss possible solutions to the problem and ensure that all stakeholders are satisfied.
The Minister is optimistic that through mediation with concerned stakeholders, a solution will be identified that the implementation of this important project can proceed.
Recently, Malawi Environmental Protection Authority (MEPA) issued had an Environmental Protection Order (EPA) issued a dosure order against the project but later gave the Water Board an approval to proceed with the project in December last year.
