The National Bank of Malawi (NBM) has taken a significant step in transforming the country’s digital financial landscape by presenting a K5 million cheque to support the launch of the Association of Digital Financial Services (ADFS). The launch is scheduled for June 19, 2025.
According to Bram Fudzulani, ADFS Executive Member, the Association aims to bring together key players in the financial and digital sectors to discuss challenges and propose solutions. This initiative seeks to foster collaboration, policy influence, and capacity-building across the digital finance space.
Stewart Tepelunde, NBM Card Services Manager, described the formation of ADFS as timely, highlighting its potential to provide a platform for dialogue and cooperation among stakeholders.

The launch event will unite over 20 digital finance service providers, regulators, and civil society organizations (CSOs).
ADFS has secured approximately K20 million of the K30 million budgeted for the launch. This financial boost from NBM will help bridge the funding gap and ensure the successful execution of the event.
NBM’s commitment to digital financial services is evident in its efforts to promote inclusive financial solutions. The bank has introduced various digital products, such as Mo626 Digital+, to make transactions smoother and more accessible.
This move has been well-received by vendors in Blantyre, who appreciate the improved transaction efficiency and enhanced customer experience.
The launch of ADFS marks a crucial milestone in Malawi’s digital financial journey, and NBM’s contribution will undoubtedly play a significant role in shaping the industry’s future.
