Nigerian lawyers demand US$200 billion compensation from China over Coronavirus impact

LAGOS-(MaraviPost)-A group of Nigerian lawyers has sued the Peoples Republic of China demanding US$200 billion as compensation for the loss of lives, economic strangulation, trauma, hardship, social disorientation, mental torture and disruption of normal daily existence of people due to the pandemic.

The Nation news revealed that the team of legal experts has planned a two phase line of action-: first is with the federal high court of Nigeria and secondly to persuade the government of Federal Republic of Nigeria to institute a state action against the Peoples Republic of China at the International Court of Justice at the Hague.

A statement issued by the lead counsel, Prof. Epiphany Azinge , who is championing the action has revealed that the lawyers have concluded pleadings for the class action against the Chinese government which be served through its Embassy in Nigeria.

Before the pandemic, the Nigerian government had been grappling with weak recovery from the 2014 oil price shock, with GDP growth tapering around 2.3 percent in 2019. The coming of the pandemic has make it much more difficult for Nigeria government to recover from the ongoing existing crisis.

Nigeria has recorded a total of 1,273 Coronavirus Cases and 40 reported deaths so far.
