BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The first round of the 2025 TNM Super League came to an end last Sunday, with Mighty Wanderers narrowly topping the table.
The Nomads concluded the opening half of the season with 35 points from 15 matches, just a single point ahead of their archrivals FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, who also played 15 matches but finished with 34 points.
The competition has been fierce, with both sides trading places at the summit throughout the first round.
Speaking after the conclusion of the first round, Super League of Malawi (SULOM) president Gilbert Mitawa described the opening phase as one of the most competitive in recent years.
“The first round has been very tight, even though there were a few matches where supporters did not behave well,” Mitawa said.
“We are urge security personnel to perform their duties diligently to ensure the safety of everyone at the stadium,”Mitawa added.
In the individual awards race, Bullets’ Nigerian striker Babatunde Adepoju leads the top scorers’ chart with eight goals.
His clinical finishing has kept Bullets in the title hunt despite their narrow deficit to Wanderers.
At the opposite end of the standings, Songwe Border United have endured a torrid debut season in the league.
After 15 matches, they remain winless, with just two points to their name, leaving them rooted to the bottom of the table and facing an uphill battle for survival.
Local football analyst Ibrahim Phiri praised the competitiveness of the first round, noting how close the title race remains.
“This season’s league is wide open than last year, Silver Strikers were leading by a 9 points much bigger margin at this stage. Now, the gap between first and second is just one point, which means the competition is alive and anything can happen in the second round,” Phiri said.
Fans across the country are already looking ahead to the second round, which kicks off on August 23, 2025.
