MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera’s Tonse administration whose main shareholders is Malawi Congress Party (MCP) has initiated one party rule of arresting and threatening critics over wrong doing of the leadership.
Since ascendancy to the Presidency, Chakwera’s Tonse government main shareholder MCP’s gurus, cadres have been threatening even arresting journalists for being critical of poor leadership.
On Tuesday, April 6, Chakwera’s police detained freelance journalist Watipaso Mzungu for a story which was attached to civil right group ,Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiative – CDEDI, Sylvester Namiwa who called President Chakwera a joker and a time waster.
Not only that even Maravi Post editorial team has been receiving death threats, intimidation, personal lives attacks over the papers’ articles which deemed to be critical to MCP cadres.
Unfortunately, its police chief George Kainja had to defend the detation without shame forgetting that his position is to serve the nation not political leaders.
Even Chakwera’s MCP man partner UTM members are being threatened with arrests.
For instance, following the victory of UTM in Karonga North West Constituency [KNWC] March 30, 2021, the Tonse Alliance leader MCP has taken revenge path.
MCP is abusing police to arrest UTM security personnel that enforced security discipline during By-Elections Campagin in KNWC.
The UTM members are alleged to have caused nocturnal mayhem at Lovemore Lodge (MCP campaigning site).
The two camp crashes ensued in the presence of Homeland and Internal Security Minister and MCP Member of Parliament, Richard Chimwendo Banda.
Barely a week after UTM victory in the Constituency, Golden Milanzi, Ngwire Viyuyi, Sam Fumbo and Henry have been rounded up and thrown in the cooler.
People in Karonga have weighed in on the arrests as mere frustrations and intimidatory plots to silence UTM’s voice in the North.
The netted individuals were reportedly away from the mayhem spot in the Saturday night of March 28, 2021.
Ironically, what has surprised people of Karonga is that there is no investigations into what are known as follow-up burglary and physical assault crimes that took place at Pacific Lodge in the wee hours of Sunday, March 29 2021.
The lodge that was targeted as camp site for UTM senior members during the campaign.
At Pacific Lodge, there were horrific acts of physical harm on watchman, and two guests who were severely wounded in the head and feet.
Further, the thugs went away with over MK450, 000 cash. This incident is buried under the reasons best known to the police.
It’s pathetic that MCP is raising arms on their major alliance partners apparently for losing grip in KNWC despite their heavily funded campaign.
When will MCP be civilized and practice and follow dictates of democracy?
