BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Chairperson of the Public Affairs Committee (PAC), Monsignor Patrick Thawale, has called on political parties in Malawi to refrain from making statements that could incite violence.

He emphasized that as the country approaches the forthcoming elections, it is essential for all stakeholders to work together in promoting peace and national unity.

Monsignor Thawale made the remarks during the official opening of a two-day multi-stakeholder conference currently taking place in the city of Blantyre.

The conference brings together representatives from various sectors to discuss issues surrounding the upcoming elections and the importance of maintaining a peaceful electoral process.

Thawale highlighted that it is in the best interest of the nation that political leaders set a positive example by fostering tolerance and dialogue rather than conflict.

He further stressed that Malawi’s democracy can only thrive in an environment where mutual respect and peaceful coexistence are upheld.

According to PAC, various government departments are also expected to present their views on a range of issues during the conference.

The event is part of PAC’s ongoing efforts to create a platform for inclusive dialogue and consensus-building ahead of the country’s general elections.

Stakeholders present include political parties, civil society, faith-based organizations, and members of the academic community.
