In Lilongwe, police have arrested Youngstone Kaunda, a 38-year-old man, after discovering that he was in possession of a firearm and 207 rounds of ammunition without a license. Authorities say Kaunda has been using the weapon to intimidate local villagers.
Hastings Chigalu, the spokesperson for the Lilongwe Police, explained that Kaunda was apprehended after an investigation that linked him to the hiding of a person involved in a stabbing incident. The police received reports from concerned villagers about his threatening behavior, prompting immediate action.

Kaunda is said to have been moving from house to house at night, scaring local women by firing shots into the air. He would then accuse the women’s children of stealing his potatoes.
After receiving complaints from the community, the police quickly responded to the area and managed to apprehend Kaunda. He is now facing multiple charges, including illegal possession of a firearm without a license.
Kaunda hails from the village of Reuben, located under Traditional Authority Kalumbu in Lilongwe. His arrest has been hailed as a positive step in curbing illegal firearm use and violent threats in the area.
