The remains of rights activist Charles Ben Longwe were laid to rest on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at his home village in Senior Chief Mkumbira’s area in Nkhata Bay.

Longwe passed away on March 19, 2025, at a hospital in Thyolo after battling a swollen leg.

His burial ceremony drew a gathering of human rights activists, political figures, and community members who came to honor his contributions.

Among those in attendance were human rights activist Bon Kalindo and UTM Vice President for the North, Catherine Mzumara.

Longwe, born on September 27, 1977, was remembered for his unwavering commitment to justice and equality.

In her eulogy, Mzumara urged northerners to be proactive in advancing human rights.

She encouraged them to emulate Longwe’s passion for patriotism and unity.

Mzumara emphasized the need for continued advocacy in the fight for equal rights.

She expressed concern over tribalism and the lack of sufficient development projects in the northern region.

She called upon the people to embrace the responsibility of shaping their own future.

Longwe’s legacy now serves as a beacon of hope for those who seek justice and progress.
