LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Peter Mutharika on Friday renewed the contract of Professor Kanyama Phiri as Vice Chancellor for Lilongwe University of Agriculture and Natural Resources (LUANAR).
The reappointment is with immediate effect on August 4, 2017, a notice that addressed to LUANAR staff members and students.
Professor Kanyama Phiri’s contract renewal comes ten months after the latter went into retirement from the same position in November 2016, whereby Emmanuel Kaunda served as LUANAR Acting Vice Chancellor.
Information made available to The Maravi Post, said President Mutharika also appointed Lewis Dzimbiri as Deputy Vice Chancellor of LUANAR.
Professor Phiri is instrumental and a proponent of unbundling of University of Malawi (UNIMA) with its constituent college, the former Bunda College of Agriculture which is now LUANAR.
Bunda College delinked from UNIMA in 2011, where after it combined with the Natural Resources College (NRC) and formed LUANAR.
Kanyama Phiri support to the unbundling ended the bureaucracy that existed within Unima structure.
Since LUANAR separation from UNIMA, significant developments within the University structure such as upsetting the financial muscle of the University, coupled with outstanding processes of sustaining the institution.
Currently, LUANAR a owns filling station, home to a vibrant research centre that used to help the University’s financial operations.
