Blantyre, January 11, 2019. The 2018-19 Presidential Netball Initiative for Sports kicked-Off on Thursday on a promising note as Blue Eagles, Kukoma Diamonds and Civonets registered two wins while Thunder Queens lost one game.
In the first game, Blue Eagles produced a stunning performance to beat Mafco Sisters 30-24 before another victory in the afternoon against Boma Sisters with 28-23 baskets.
Fireworks exploded in the second game of the day when Civonets shocked Thunder Queens with 32-20 baskets.
However, Thunder Queens responded quickly in their second game as they pruned Serenity 44-24.
Tigresses also won their two games as they beat Mimosa 41-11 before clipping Mzuzu Queens in another encounter by 48-21.
Favourites, Kukoma Diamonds were on a serious rampage as they walloped Mzuzu based, Lameck Queens 49-9. Diamonds also beat Prison Sisters 38-16.
Netball Association of Malawi General Secretary, Carol Bapu described the first day of the games as competitive and was impressed with the level of performance.
“We have watched competitive games and those who missed the games should know that they have missed real entertainment,” said Bapu.
The games are scheduled to wrap up on Saturday with the winner expected to go home with K4 million.
Blue Eagles Sisters are the current Cup holders after beating Kukoma Diamonds last season in Lilongwe.
