Standard Bank channels Be More Race tourney’ proceeds toward athletes welfare, capacity building

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Standard Bank has disclosed that this year’s Be More Race tourney proceeds will be channeled towards Malawi’s athletes welfare and capacity building.

Standard Bank Malawi Chief Executive Director Philip told The Maravi Post on Saturday, August 16, 2025 that “Since we launched this tournament Since 2017, athletes haven’t taken care despite being key for Be More Race.

“This year’s proceeds will be channeled to athletes well-being and capacity building that they compete and international tournaments,” assure Madinga.

He was speaking after the sidelines of 2025 Standard Bank Be More Race at Gateway Mall on.

Eventuslly, Malkawi Government has commended Standard Bank for sponsoring the Be More Race for seven years.

Minister of Youth and Sports Uchizi Mkandawire said the race continues to make a positive impact on athletics and the society.

“I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to Standard Bank for their unwavering commitment to using this race as a catalyst for positive change in our society and for advancing athletics in Malawi.

“Through the Be More Race, Standard Bank has consistently demonstrated its dedication to supporting worthy causes and building communities. I am excited to note that the funds this year shall be donated to growing athletics in Malawi. I believe this is in line with this year’s theme ‘Run in Blue’, that speaks to the bank’s wish to build a legacy. They are taking us on the journey with them,” he said.

At the end of the tournament Chikondi Mwanyali won the 21km Standard Bank Be More Race men’s category, finishing ahead of Kefasi Kasteni in second place and Thomas Chunga in third. Brave Mwamphande and Allan Chirwa came fourth and fifth, respectively.

Mwanyali received K1.6 million, while Kasteni and Chunga pocketed K1.2 million and K1 million respectively.

In the women’s category, Christina Mbewe emerged champion, followed by Mercy Malembo and Enifa Kapanda in second and third. Winners in this category received the same as those in the men’s category.

There were 2500 athletes in this year’s edition.
