A twelve year old boy died in Ntchisi District recently after he fell off from a mango tree which he climbed to pluck some mango fruits.
Ntchisi Police Spokesperson, Richard Kaponda said the deceased identified as Kalikuti Khizesi of Kawanga Village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Kasakula’s area met his fate on August 20, when he lost hold of a tree branch and fell down and died on the spot.
Police said the medical personnel visited the scene and no foul play was suspected to have taken place.
Meanwhile, police in the district are advising parents and guardians to discourage their children from climbing trees.
Ntchisi, March 30, 2020:An angry mob Saturday morning torched down Malomo Police Station in Ntchisi district after police from the station rescued a man whom some community members alleged to be a blood sucker.
Confirming the incident, Ntchisi Police Station Public Relations Officer, Richard Kaponda explained that community members in Traditional Authority (TA) Chilooko’s area which Malomo falls under apprehended a man whom they suspected to be a blood sucker.
The suspect, whose identity is yet to be established was heavily assaulted by the community members and was taken to Malomo Police Station while in a bad shape.
“Upon their arrival at the police station, the mob wanted to torch the suspect right within the police premises but the officers on duty managed to rescue him much to the displeasure and anger of the community members who started stoning the police station and torched it down in the process,” said Kaponda.
Police Officers from Ntchisi Police Station went to Malomo and rescued the suspect who is now admitted at the hospital.
In a related development, police in the district on the same day rescued a 46 year old man in TA Chilooko’s area after some community members suspected him to be a blood sucker.
The man has been identified as Precious Chikopa who hails from Kavalasiye Village.
According to Kaponda, Chikopa went on a drinking spree and decided to ask for a place to sleep at an unnamed village as it was dark.
The villagers then turned against him accusing him of being a blood sucker. He managed to escape and handed himself to Malomo Police for safety.
Still on the same blood sucking claims in the area, some people on Friday night torched down a vehicle accusing the three people who were on board of being blood suckers.
The three, who managed to escape, were on their way from Kasungu and were apprehended at an illegal road block the community members had mounted along the Kasungu – Nkhotakota road which passes through Ntchisi.
Meanwhile, the police have managed to clear illegal road blocks which some people had mounted at Ngombe and Khuwi Trading centres along the Mponela – Ntchisi road amid the blood sucking rumours.
The people were demanding money from motorists for them to pass through.

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Angry villagers in Dowa burnt to death a man identified as Paulo Tokoma suspected of practicing witchcraft.
According to Dowa Police Station spokesperson Richard Kaponda the incident occurred on August 2, 2019 at about 16:00 hrs at Kachala village, Traditional Authority (T.A) Msakambewa in the district.
Kaponda told The Maravi Post that during the month of July, 2019, Sipe Chibala of Chibala village, T.A) Msakambewa in the district died believed to have been bewitched by the deceased, Paulo Tokoma and Kalaya Mwale, of Kakondaudya village, T/A Msakambewa, both are long- time suspects of practicing witchcraft.
“On 2nd August, 2019 at 16:00 hrs, relatives of the bewitched person mobilised other villagers who abducted the deceased to death while the other suspect, Kalaya Mwale, born in 1982, was rescued by relatives and is currently admitted at Dowa District Hospital.
“The scene was visited accompanied by a medical officer who pronounced death of the deceased as due to hypovolemic shock secondary to severe burns,” says Kaponda.
He added that investigations are in progress to arrest the perpetrators.
The deceased Tokoma hails hails from Kachala village, T.A Msakambewa in Dowa district.
DOWA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in the central district of Dowa are keeping in custody Mercedes Benz driver Clement Wyton, for allegedly killing Police officer and injuring two others with the vehicle, while under the influence of alcohol.
Dowa Police publicist Richard Kaponda, identified the deceased as 35-year old Brown Selemani, and the other injured officers as Trace Longwe, 25 and Lawrence Mtethwa, 45.
The suspect Wyton, on Monday was driving from Mponera towards Lumbadzi, and upon arrival at the Dowa Turn-off roadblock, he failed to control his vehicle due to over-speeding and his alleged state of drunkenness.
Eventually the driver hit three of the Police officers who were on duty at the roadblock;. Due to the impact, Selemani sustained fatal head injuries.
Kaponda added that the late Selemani was referred to Mtengowanthenga Mission Hospital in the district, where he was pronounced dead up on arrival.
Longwe who sustained fractures on both legs, was transferred to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH), while Mtethwa sustained minor injuries at received all treatment at the Mission Hospital.
“The dead body of the late Selemani will be taken from Mtengowanthenga Mortuary to Kacheta village, Traditional Authority (T.A.) in Kasungu district, tomorrow for burial.
“The driver remains in Police custody, pending thorough investigations on the matter. He will be taken to court soon,” said Kaponda.

DOWA-(MaraviPost) – Twenty-six year old Foster Kaikeni is under Dowa police custody, for allegedly attempting to sale his Cousin.
Dowa police station publicist Richard Kaponda, identified the victim as 20-Year old male, who met the fate on June 5, this year at Chinyanya Village Traditional Authority (T.A.) Chiwere in the district.
DOWA-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi police in the central district of Dowa, are keeping in custody twenty seven-year old Maliseni Misomali, for allegedly impersonating a police officer, contrary to Section 99, Sub Section B of the Pinal Code.
Dowa Police publicist Richard Kaponda, said on May 27, Misomali iallegedly went to Gomani Trading Centre and asked Redson Bikitoni, who owns a bar to produce a Liquor Licence, but the victim fail to comply.
Thereafter, Misomali asked the bar owner to pay MK30,000, but who later paid K25,000.00.
The suspect on Sunday went to Kamphasi Trading Centre, where he asked Titani Molovesi, who also has a bar, to show him a liquor Licence.
Kaponda said in the two instances, Misomali presented himself to the business men, as a police officer assigned to verify the businesses licenses.
He added that before the second victim produced the licence, he asked the suspect, firstly to show police identity card (ID); to check if he truly was a police officer, but the suspect did not show the ID.
“This raised eye blows of the second business man, who eventually alerted the chairman of community Policing Forum in their area, and Misomali was immediately arrested.
When asked about this issue, he cheated them that he is a police officer from Dowa Police station, and that many police officers have been deployed in the area to check Liquor Licences.
“When he was taken to Dowa Police station, however, he admitted that was not a police officer,” Kaponda said.
“The suspect will appear in court soon once the investigations are completed. Misomali is expected to answer the offence of impersonating a Public Officer, contrary to Section 99, Sub Section B, of the Pinal Code,” he said.
The suspect hails from Kainja Village Traditional Authority (T.A) Mkukula in Dowa district.
Dowa man jailed eight years for defiling and impregnating granddaughter
DOWA-(MaraviPost) – The Dowa first grade magistrate court on Monday, convicted and sentenced a 52-year old Wilson Banda to eight years imprisonment with hard labor, for defiling and impregnating his 15-year old granddaughter.
According to Dowa Police Station spokesperson Richard Kaponda, the court heard that the suspect committed the crime between the months of December 2016 and January 2017, when his wife was at her home village as she was expectant.
Kaponda said the suspect took advantage of his wife’s absence when he started sexually assaulting the girl who was doing all the house chores.
The police publicist added that some elderly women from the village, noticed the girl’s body changes, following which they quizzed the girl to reveal who was responsible for the pregnancy. The girl said it is the grandfather, Wilson Banda.
The matter was reported to the police, who eventually, arrested the grandfather. He was charged with the offence of Defilement Contrary to section 131 of the Penal Code.
In his mitigation, the convict asked the court for leniency, saying he agreed with the victim that he will marry her. He also added that no one will take care of his maize garden and his children.
“But state prosecutor Agnes Mphinga, asked the court for no mercy saying the convict, being the grandfarther, was supposed to protect the girl, not impregnate her.
“First grade magistrate Amulani Phiri, agreed with the state, saying it is questionable for someone to marry his own granddaughter, that the victim will not live a happy life, because the experience went through.
Consequently, Magistrate Phiri sentenced Banda to 8 years imprisonment with hard labor. This is to deter other would-be offenders, police said.

Road accident: Unknown motor vehicle kills man in Dowa
DOWA-(MaraviPost)- The Malawi police in the central district of Dowa, are hunting for an unknown driver, who was involved in a hit and run incident which left one person dead.
The deceased is identified as 38-year old Ackim Dyson. Witnesses said they did not capture the number plates of the hit and run vehicle.
Concern has been expressed since 10 days ago another driver, Mathews Maulidi, who is at large, hit and killed 21-year old Evance Amidu. This occurred at Dzaleka Trading Centre, along Lumbazi Dowa road.
Dowa police station spokesperson Richard Kaponda told The Maravi Post that the accident occurred Saturday night, April 8, 2017, at Sole village along Lilongwe Salima road.
Kaponda said that the unknown driver, who was coming from the direction of Salima going towards Lilongwe, upon arrival at sole village, as he was descend Ackim Dyson, who was coming from Chankhungu Trading Centre.
“Ackim Dyson was left helpless and later was run over by other vehicles, tearing the body and died on the spot.
“Postmortem was conducted at Dowa District Hospital, by medical officials, concluded that death was due to multiple injuries and loss of blood,” said Kaponda said.
The Dyson hailed from Singo village, Traditional Autholity (T.A) Mkukula in Dowa district.
