Teargas fired as chaos erupts after Chitipa United’s first Home defeat to Bullets

CHITIPA-(MaraviPost)-Police were forced to fire teargas on Saturday at Chitipa Stadium to quell violent scenes after Chitipa United suffered a 2–0 loss to FCB Nyasa Big Bullets in Tnm Super League 2025 season.

The tense atmosphere erupted moments after the final whistle when a section of home supporters accused match officials of biased officiation claiming that several key decisions went against their team.

According to information that MaraviPost publication gathered some fans attempted to invade the pitch and threw bottles and stones toward match officials.

Shockingly, Chitipa United’s coach Kondwa Ikwanga were also allegedly tried to confront and beat the referees after the final whistle, further inflaming the situation.

The law enforcers acted swiftly to prevent the situation from escalating further and also provided an escort for Bullets’ team bus to ensure the safety of players and officials.

The defeat marked Chitipa United’s first home loss of the season, a blow for the side which had turned Chitipa Stadium into a fortress in the current campaign.

For Bullets, the victory took them to 37 points from 16 games, maintaining their lead at the top of the table, while Mighty Wanderers remain second with 35 points from 15 games.

Bullets’ goals came courtesy of Henry Chiwaya and Babatunde Adepoju.

Bullets head coach Peter Mponda praised his players for their fighting spirit by saying It was a tough game in difficult conditions but his players showed character and fought hard for the three points.

“We respect Chitipa United and Chitipa had played a good game,” Mponda told reporters.

According to reports compiled by MaraviPost publication Sports Desk, this is the fourth recorded incident of fan violence in the 2025 TNM Super League season, raising further concerns for the Super League of Malawi (SULOM).

The governing body is expected to review match reports and determine any disciplinary measures against the culprits, including the alleged misconduct by Chitipa’s coach.
