TRIPOLI-(MaraviPost)-Libyan rescue services have recovered 20 bodies of migrants around 320 kilometers southwest of Kufra and 120 kilometers from the border with Chad two weeks after they lost contact.
The Kufra ambulance chief Ibrahim Belhasan confirmed the news of the tragedy, adding that the bodies were discovered by a truck driver traveling through the desert on Tuesday, June 29, 2022.

Belhasan was quoted by Reuters saying: “The driver of the migrants got lost and we believe the group died in the desert about 14 days ago since the last call on a mobile phone there was on June 13”.
Two of the bodies were reportedly to be Libyans and the others were believed to be migrants from Chad who had crossed into Libya.
Reports indicate that the migrants had come from neighbouring Chad and reached some 120 kilometres (75 miles) into Libyan territory before the vehicle they were using broke down, and they all died of thirst.
Thousands of people every year cross the desert in attempts to reach the Mediterranean coast and ultimately Europe, but many die en route due to harsh conditions of the area.
The country regularly sees summer temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius (104 Fahrenheit).
This comes after 50 migrants were discovered died in the San Antonio city of the United States after being abandoned in a lorry trailer.
In recent years, Libya’s borders have become routes heavily exploited by smugglers, migrant groups and human traffickers from Chad, Niger and Sudan, most of whom seek to undertake a risky journey through the Mediterranean Sea, to arrive illegally. to European countries.
