Two people arrested in connection to case of woman harassment in Blantyre City

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-The Malawi Police in Blantyre are keeping in custody two people in connection to the case of a woman who was undressing Blantyre city.

Blantyre police spokesperson Augustus Nkhwazi confirmed the incident but refused to provide further information on particulars of the offence and the suspects.

The arrest has been made following the letter of concern that was issued by HRCC after a video that was circulating on social media showing a woman being physically harassed, undressed and injured by Blantyre vendors.

In the written communication issued by Human Rights Consultative Centre (HRCC) the civil rights organization asked for immediate arrest of the people involved in what has been described as ‘barbaric’ act starting with the one leading the group of the attackers.

HRCC has also asked Malawi Union for Informal sector (MUFIS), Blantyre City Assembly, Blantyre Vendors Committee and Ministry of Gender to ensure that such barbaric acts are no longer tolerated the commercial and industrial capital of Malawi, Blantyre.
