“Wait on Wednesday, its either Chakwera or me to lead alliance for presidential polls”-Chilima

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-Malawi Vice President and UTM leader Dr. Saulos Chilima on Monday, May 4, 2020 urged supporters across the country that they be patient enough till Wednesday this week on who to lead UTM and Malawi Congress Party (MCP) electoral alliance for July 2, 2020.

Chilima told the news conference in the capital Lilongwe that its either MCP leader Dr. Lazarus Chakwera or him to lead the alliance for polls.

The UTM leader was responding to Maravi Post question on when will alliance’s presidential candidate is to be known to the public.

Malawi VP clears out, “All supporters must wait patiently on this coming Wednesday, May 6, 2020 when alliance torchbearer will be unveiled upon presentation of nomination papers.

“Its between two of us, either Chakwera or me to lead the alliance. Therefore supporters in our parties including partners must accept the leader for alliance”.

Chilima response settles roumours in which both parties members are fighting for their leaders to lead the alliance.

UTMCP electoral alliance is into partnership with Peoples Party (PP), Alliance For Democracy (Aford), Umodzi Party (UP), Freedom Party (FP), Mafunde, Chipani Cha Fuko and among others.

The gland opposition alliance is expected face President Peter Mutharika’s Democratic Progress Party (DPP)-United Democratic Front (UDF) coalition.
