Wanderers beat rivals Big Bullets to lift Mayor’s Charity Shield

Mighty Be Forward Wanderers on Saturday beat their old rivals Big Bullets 6-5 in penalty-shoot out to lift the Mayor’s Charity Shield.

The Nomads, who on Friday unveiled their sponsors, Be Forward, a Japanese car dealers, pocketed K1 million while Bullets got K500,000.

Wanderers converted all their spot kicks through Kondwani Lufeyo, Francis Mlimbika, Patric Gunde, Rafiq Mussa, Mike Kaziputa and Ibrahim Sadiki while Bullets scored through Fischer Kondowe, Pilirani Zonda, Yamikani Fodya, Miracle Gabeya and Henry Kabichi before Frazer Menyani’s spot kick being tamed by Wanderers goalie Richard Chipuwa, who was probably man-of-the-match. 

The match was organised raise funds for ‘Keep Blantyre Clean and Green’ campaign which the Blantyre City Assembly is promoting.

They hoped to raise about K12 million from the Blantyre derby which attracted a huge turn out.

GOtv sponsored the Mayor’s Charity Shield at K4 million.

Multichoice Malawi Marketing Manager Chimwemwe Nyirenda said they were proud to be associated with the campaign initiative.

“We could have just donated the money towards the Keep Blantyre Clean and Green initiative, but we wanted to create an event to involve so many people.

“Its not about what we gave but rather what is going to come out after this match,” said Nyirenda.

Apart from the cash prizes, each team also got K650,000 for players allowances and other expenses.
