WinBig extends a helping hand to Cyclone Freddy survivors in Chilobwe

BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Fifty households affected by the devastating Cyclone Freddy in Chilobwe, Blantyre, have received much-needed support through a donation of assorted items, thanks to the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative by WinBig.

The gesture was part of WinBig’s ongoing commitment to social impact and community empowerment, aimed at uplifting the lives of vulnerable citizens who are still reeling from the aftermath of one of the country’s deadliest natural disasters.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, WinBig brand ambassador Onesmus emphasized that the company is not only in the business of providing entertainment but also plays an active role in community development and humanitarian support.

He explained that while many have moved on, some families continue to struggle in the wake of Cyclone Freddy, and it is the responsibility of society—including the private sector—to ensure these communities are not forgotten.

The donation exercise followed the ceremonial presentation of a Mazda Demio to Lexar Chimatiro, a 41-year-old man who became WinBig’s third car winner through its popular promotion.

As part of the CSR effort, WinBig provided items such as soap, sugar, rice, cooking oil, and other essential commodities aimed at easing the day-to-day struggles of the affected families.

The beneficiaries of the donation included the elderly, single mothers, and other vulnerable members of the Chilobwe community, carefully identified by the leadership of Mount Olive CCAP.

The initiative has been widely appreciated by the community, with many describing it as a timely act of compassion and solidarity.
