HARARE-(MaraviPost)-Zimbabwe government has started disbursing money to vulnerable groups that were affected by the 21-day lockdown that was imposed on then as one way of reducing the spread of the novel coronavirus.
Minister of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfar, Professor Paul Mavima disclosed this during a post Cabinet briefing.
Mavima said there are other databases of those who are marginally food insecure with almost 3,5 million people but meanwhile government is focusing on the neediest out of those to reach out to the budgeted one million beneficiaries.
A report by Zimbabwe news revealed that Zimbabwe government will also ensure that the beneficiaries are not charged transactional costs when cashing out the funds and separate package will be worked on to cushion SMEs and vendors.
Zimbabwe president Emmerson Mnangagwa imposed a nationwide lockdown for 21 days from Monday March 30, 2020 restricting people to their homes for most activities, only permitting outings for buying food or health emergencies, with security agents deployed to enforce it.
Zimbabwe has about 23 recorded cases of Coronavirus and 3 deaths as of Thursday 16 April, 2020.
