Mrs Cecilia Kumpukwe, who is the young sister and Personal Assistant to the former President Dr. Joyce Banda, was arrested on Tuesday morning amid allegations that she took part in writing the Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima’s fake resignation letter, Maravi Post has learned.
According to our reliable source, Kumpukwe was arrested at her residence in Chigumula.
She has been transferred to Area 30, Police Headquarters, in Lilongwe for questioning.
“Malawians should expect more arrests. It seems there are number of suspects,” said our source in condition of anonymity.
It is further alleged that the first arrested suspect, Stella Assani, was the one that implicated Kumpukwe in the fake resignation letter saga.
Police are also hunting for Ackson Kalaile, as another suspect in the fake letter saga. It is alleged Kalaile Banda slipped out of the country through Kamuzu International Airport, soon after the letter was circulated on social media, according to our source.
Maravi Post is informed that a number of ICT materials such as laptops, computers, and internet gadgets, were confiscated in Assani’s house, during her arrest over the weekend.
However, police national spokesperson James Kadadzera, would not confirm or deny the arrest of the two suspects.
