In a significant breakthrough, the Zomba Police Service has apprehended 11 individuals suspected of committing a range of crimes, including burglary, theft, malicious damage, receiving stolen property, possession of petroleum products without a license, and possession of cannabis sativa without a permit.
The arrests were made during an intelligence-driven operation conducted by the district’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the night of May 14, 2025.
According to Inspector Patricia Sipiliano, the Zomba Police spokesperson, the operation was a result of thorough investigations following numerous reports of break-ins and theft in areas such as Chinamwali, Matawale, and other parts of the district.
The police had been receiving complaints from residents about the series of incidents, which prompted them to take action.
The suspects were arrested in connection with these crimes, and the police have managed to recover stolen items, including two plasma screens, one Lenovo laptop, and other assorted goods.
The recovered items are believed to be part of the stolen property that had been reported missing by residents.
Inspector Sipiliano emphasized that the police were committed to ensuring the safety and security of the community.
“We take all reports of crime seriously and will continue to work tirelessly to bring perpetrators to justice,” she said.
The arrest of the 11 suspects has brought relief to the residents of Zomba, who had been living in fear of the criminal activities.
