
Police in Chiradzuru are planning to arrest seven Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) councilors for illegally sealing the office of the District Commissioner (DC) last month.
Chiradzuru police spokesperson Victoria Chirwa, said the development follows a complaint lodged by DC Memory Kaleso.
According to him, the seven will be charged with a case of causing breach of peace, which against section 181 of the country’s penal code.
“We are indeed processing (a warrant) to arrest the seven DPP councillors for causing breach of peace,” Chirwa said.
DC Kaleso also confirmed that he has lodged the complaint to the police.
Kaleso further accused the concerned councilors of threatening the council officials by stopping them going to their respective offices since the DC’s office was shutdown.
Maravi Post was informed that the DC’s office shut-down disturbed the duties of the council.
The DPP councillors accuse the DC for being an agent of the former ruling People’s Party (PP).
However, government condemned the development.
