Brothers arrested for destruction of tree seedlings in a dispute over land they still lay claim to

Police in Ntchisi have arrested three brothers for allegedly damaging tree seedlings belonging to Mvumo Primary School. Police haveidentified the suspects as Maso Mbiri, 28, Wilson Mbiri, 39, and Isaac Mbiri, 68, all from Chiwale Village in the are of Traditional Authority Chilooko in Ntchisi.

Police investigations revealed that the three brothers at Mvumo Primary School in Ntchisi willfully and unlawfully damaged tree seedlings by promoting which is the property of the school and the community.

 

The suspects also conduct themselves in a manner likely to cause breach of peace by preventing the chiefs and the community to proceed with the tree planting exercise at the school thereby disturbing the peace of the whole community.

The suspects claimed that the land was theirs and not of the school but the issue of land was sorted out some years ago and it was given to the school for development.

The suspects are in police custody pending court hearing soon for the charges of malicious damage and conduct likely to cause breach of peace contrary to Section 344 and 181 of The Penal Code respectively.
