Premier mobile network service provider, TNM has handed over medical equipment worth K8.7 million to Kamuzu Central Hospital (KCH) which will enable the public referral facility to set up the High Dependency Unit.
The donation is in response to hospital authority recommendation to develop a Dependency Unit in the burns unit so that children who are most vulnerable to burns are taken care in a better environment.
Speaking during the handover ceremony held at Kamuzu Central Hospital, TNM Mpamba Trust Fund Chairman Jabbar Alide said TNM believes in giving back to communities.
“TNM through Mpamba has come here to play our part in helping save life. As a Malawian company, TNM remains committed to working and assisting the people of the country who are our customers,” Alide said.
Alide said TNM feel obliged to assist government to meet social needs of the public particularly in the health sector
“We feel obliged to play our part in assisting government meet some of the pressing social needs such as health. We are all painfully aware that the Government can’t go it alone to effectively tackle the health challenges facing the nation”, he said.
He disclosed that the equipment has been purchased with the proceeds from TNM’s mobile money service, Mpamba.
“The equipment that TNM is handing over was purchased with proceeds from our mobile money service, Mpamba. In line with our corporate social responsibility, we set what is called the Mpamba Trust Fund. The fund uses interest generated from the money that is kept in our customers’ wallets for corporate social responsibility activities such as this one” he said
KCH clinician Nelson Msiska described the donation as timely.
“On behalf of the hospital allow me to extend our profound gratitude to TNM for this donation, this is timely considering that the facility had no equipment to handle cases that require intensive care high dependency and able to save lives of many Malawians,” said Msiska.
The equipment donated includes Multi-functional patient monitors for vital sings, suction machines, oxygen concentrators, ventilator for inhalation burns among others.
