Malawi President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika will attend the Memorial Service of the Late Former President of Malawi Professor Bingu WA Mutharika on Saturday May 9, 2015 at Ndata Farm in Thyolo.

The President is expected to arrive at Ndata at 10:00 hrs. All invited guests are requested to be seated by 09:00 hrs.

Former President Bingu WA Mutharika, died on 5 April after a cardiac arrest and was buried at his sprawling farm in southern Malawi.

Bingu Mutharika was laid to rest next to his first wife Ethel in a huge white marble mausoleum called the Taj Mahal by local media.

Thousands of mourners and several African heads of state, including his close ally President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, attended the state funeral.

When Bingu WA Mutharika died, government failed to notify the public in a timely manner that the president had died. This led to the fear of a constitutional crisis.

A group of Ministers led by President Peter Mutharika tried to deny Joyce Banda the Presidency. They flew Bingu’s body to South Africa in what many believed to be a delaying tact as President Bingu Mutharika was already declared dead by the doctors who attended to him when he was brought to the hospital.
