The Catholic Church in Malawi, on May 16th 2015, joins the rest of the Catholic faithful in the world in celebrating the Year of Consecrated Life (YCL) which was initially announced by Pope Francis.
On the Feast of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 21 November 2014, the Holy Father announced that beginning from 30 November 24 until 2 February 2016 is the year for the men and women in consecrated life to remember their histories, and for the entire Church to giving thanks to God for the charisms of founders of Congregations and for the service of sisters, brothers, priests and nuns in the world. Pope Francis also appealed to the young Catholics to consider religious vocation.
Following the announcement Archbishop Thomas L. Msusa, Chairman of the Episcopal Conference of Malawi (ECM), officially announced a special national celebration in Malawi on the of ECM’s AMECEA Thanksgiving Mass at Don Bosco in Lilongwe, took place on 31 January 2015.
The associations for religious men and women, in collaboration with the laity and the Catholic Secretariat have organized the celebration that will gather the Christians together to celebrate what religious Congregations have contributed to the growth of the Church and the development of the country and to pray for vocations.
“The national celebration will take place in Lilongwe at Maula Parish on the 16th May 2015 under a local theme: “LIVING THE PRESENT WITH PASSION AND EMBRACING THE FUTURE WITH HOPE IN CHRIST,” said Archbishop Msusa.
He added, “ECM is therefore inviting all Catholic faithful and people of goodwill to come in large numbers and attend the Eucharistic Mass Celebration which will start at 8:30 am”..
