Chakwera appeals for support towards 2025 Malawi Red Cross Society Flag week: Donates MK2m

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-President Lazarus Chakwera has appeal for support towards this year’s Red Cross Society Flag Week.

Chakwera made an appeal on Thursday morning, May 8, 2025 when he officially launched the 2025 Malawi Red Cross Society Flag Week at Kamuzu Palace in the City of Lilongwe.

The event, which marks the beginning of the Red Cross’s annual fundraising campaign.

As Patron of the MRCS, President Chakwera led by example by making a donation of MK2 million to the organization.

In return, the Malawi leader was presented with a carnation and a certificate of recognition, bush jacket, and a brochure in appreciation of his support.

Chakwera therefore urged Malawians to treat everyone equally and ensure that nobody’s dignity is undermined.

He commended Malawi Red Cross Society for its tireless efforts in providing humanitarian services to vulnerable communities.

The Malawi leader therefore then called on Malawians and all interested partners, to come in and support the organization’s work.

Speaking earlier, Minister of Health, Khumbize Kandodo Chiponda described Red Cross as a key stakeholder. He urged on Malawians to get involved in resource mobilization for the organization.

Malawi Red Cross Society President Innocent Majiya hailed President Chakwera for his unwavering support to the work of Malawi Red Cross.

He explained that the money that was raised last year was used to respond to Cholera outbreak that affected people in the districts of Karonga, Mangochi , Machinga, and Balaka.

Majiya said that this year, the organization intends to raise MK200 million to be used to respond to different disasters that have hit the country in recent years.

“We are very grateful for the trust and support that we receive from individuals and our partners. I also thank all Malawians.

Last year the flag week raised over MK60 million.
