The project, which aims to establish a hub for business, technology, and innovation, is designed to foster economic growth, technological innovation, job creation, and community upliftment.
Speaking at a press briefing held at the Bingu International Convention Center (BICC), Nicholas Kanyenda, Deputy Director Responsible for Standards and Technologies at the Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) and Project Coordinator, emphasized the project’s sustainable approach to rural development. “The Mvera Innovation City project is positioned to play a significant role in supporting Malawi’s 2063 development agenda, with a strong focus on infrastructure and technological development,” Kanyenda said.

The government has demonstrated its commitment to the project’s smooth implementation. Philimon Mkwezalamba, Deputy Commissioner for Physical Planning in the Ministry of Lands, revealed that the government has already allocated 207 hectares for the project, fully compensated affected individuals, and drawn up relocation plans.
The project aligns with Malawi’s Information and Communication Technology (ICT) policy, which focuses on ICT infrastructure development as a catalyst for economic growth. Ackim Sanuka, Senior Deputy Director in the Department of E-Government under the Ministry of Information and Digitalisation, noted that the project will contribute significantly to the country’s economic development.
