BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)-Malawian leaders are paying tribute to the late Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu, who passed away on June 5, 2025.

They remember him as a unifying figure who played a significant role in regional politics especially in Zambia.

Government spokesperson Moses Kunkuyu emphasized the close relationship between Zambia and Malawi, saying, “Zambia and Malawi are one. A loss for Zambia is a loss for Malawi.”

He noted that President Lazarus Chakwera mourns alongside the Zambian people.

President Chakwera and former Presidents Bakili Muluzi and Joyce Banda have all expressed their condolences.

They highlight Lungu’s commitment to infrastructure development and his efforts to bring people together.

Lungu’s relationship with Malawi was also notable, with many leaders remembering his warm interactions with Malawians.

Aford President Enock Chihana fondly recalls Lungu’s appreciation for Malawi’s Sobo drink.

The tributes reflect the respect and admiration many Malawians had for Lungu’s leadership.

His legacy will likely continue to shape regional dynamics and inspire future leaders.
