The Johannesburg-based podcaster and content creator is always on the lookout for his next experience, whether it’s hunting down a fashion find or hitting the best spots for food, music, and culture. This trip is no different. With a curiosity about the unexpected, Bheki sets out to experience a side of Cape Town that lies beyond the usual tourist trail.

Thrift Shopping in Observatory
Bheki’s adventure begins with a mission: to find the perfect thrifted jacket to see him through Cape Town’s chilly winter days. Known for his love of fashion and unique finds, he heads to the streets of Observatory in search of vintage pieces and pre-loved treasures. The neighbourhood is known for its creative energy and thriving thrift scene, where visitors can browse rails filled with distinctive pieces and unexpected gems.
His thrifting takes him to Nevernew, St Luke’s Combined Hospices Charity Shop, and Maids of Honour.
“Thrifting can be tricky when you’re searching for something specific, but you must trust the process. Keep looking, enjoy the journey, and eventually you’ll find that one gem that makes it all worthwhile,” he says.

Explore the Cape Kelp Forest Trail
Bheki’s itinerary continues along the Cape Peninsula via the Cape Kelp Forest Trail. The trail runs along the Cape Peninsula, connecting visitors with marine adventures, conservation projects, and local food experiences. With 12 stops to explore, the trail is best enjoyed over a few days. Bheki visits Simon’s Town, Noordhoek, and Kommetjie. The Cape Kelp Forest Trail offers a different way to experience the coastline, encouraging travellers to slow down, connect with nature, and discover the stories beneath the surface. His route includes snorkelling with Cape RADD, where he learns more about marine conservation, and a pottery session at Noordhoek Creative Studio. He also tucks into a kelp-inspired meal at The Kelp Shack before taking in the sounds of Music from the Sea with Pedro Espi-Sanchis.

Langa Township Tour
Next on Bheki’s itinerary is Langa, where he spends the day learning about the township’s history, meeting local creatives, and tasting its flavours. The experience is hosted by ABCD Concepts, a tour and transport company offering immersive tours in and around Cape Town. His first stop is the Guga S’Thebe Cultural Centre, a community space where he meets local creatives, explores handmade artworks, and learns more about the artists behind the pottery, beadwork, and mosaic pieces.
“We learned how to play djembe drums. Some artists craft amazing things. It was special to see the talent and creativity that come from this community.” From there, Bheki visits the Langa Dompas Museum, gaining a deeper understanding of the township’s history.
“This experience was very educational and explained so much about the Langa community.” His final stop is Kwa Amanda, a much-loved shisanyama spot at the Langa Taxi Rank. Renowned for its authentic kasi dining experience and premium meats cooked over an open flame, the family-run favourite brings together great food, conversation, and community.

Rands Cape Town
To wrap up his Cape Town itinerary, Bheki heads to one of Khayelitsha’s most celebrated entertainment destinations: Rands Cape Town. Since opening in 2015, Rands has become synonymous with weekend parties, live music, and shisanyama. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come together to enjoy good food, a lively atmosphere, and the unmistakable energy of kasi culture. Bheki’s verdict? “Yoh! Kumnandi.”
