MZIMBA-(MaraviPost)-The First Malawi Speaker who is also Member of Parliament (MP) for Mzimba North East Constituency Catherine Gotani Hara was on the Christmas Eve at her constituency where she interacted with her constituents as one way of thanking them for her victory and wishing them a Merry Christmas and Happy New year.
Gotani Hara crisscrossed her constituency with the Christmas messages together with some officials of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP) top which she is a senior member.
On her way to her constituency, Hara also went via Mzuzu Central Hospital where she cheered up the sick and shared with them some food items in addition to the Christmas messages.
“I’m here together with some members of our mighty party to thank my constituents for the support they gave me and MCP during the elections. Today I’m a Speaker of the Parliment because these people trusted me with their votes.
“As a parliamentarian of this constituency, I have a number of development projects such as roads schools, girl child education, women and youth empowerment, poverty alleviation and many more; in order to transform the lives of people here,” said Gotani Hara.

Concurring with Hara was MCP Mzimba District Chairperson, Joseph Chavula, who inspired hope and thanked the constituents for their undivided support for MCP.
Chavula also hinted that they conducted the tour in Mzimba North East Constituency and part of Mzuzu City just to hear people’s reactions to the presidential elections case that is yet to be determined by the Constitutional Court in Lilongwe.
“We are here to hear what people are saying about the elections we had on May 21 and the coalition MCP made with People’s Party ( PP) and Freedom Party ( FP). Most people are not happy with the results of the May 21 polls. What they are saying is that the results of the polls were not a true reflection of who they voted for,” said Chavula.
Throughout the Christmas celebration tour, Gotani Hara was accompanied Dr. Conelius Mwalwanda, who is a lawmaker for Karonga Central Constituency and Director of Economic Affairs in MCP and among other party officials.
At the end of the event, people were entertained by Football Bonanza in which four teams battled it out for MK1 million.
