LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The Young Politicians Union (YPU) is urging electoral stakeholders to the Fresh Presidential Elections to exercise their rights without infringing the rights of other citizens in the forthcoming Fresh Presidential Election.
In a statement issued on May 30, 2020 signed by YPU country director Clement Makuwa, the grouping has condemned the attacks on journalists on duty in Malawi says infringes media freedom and freedom of citizens to access information.
YPU has also asked all potential presidential candidates and their running-mate to desist and refrain from political violence while focusing on unifying the country and give hope for the better welfare of the poor.
The organization has expressed dismay in involvement of young people in the acts of violence which is against the United Nations Security Council Resolution 2250 (UNSCR 2250) and potentially limiting and denying 54% of the total registered voters consisting of young people to have an informed mind in terms of convincing policy proposals and determine their candidates.
The union has also asked all Malawians to embrace peace building and conflict prevention mechanisms to avert political violence as outlined in the National Peace Policy November 2018 and UNSCR and per aspiration of the SDG 16 which Malawi committed to adhere and complement UN in achieving the SDGs by 2030.
