BLANTYRE-(MaraviPost)—People of Thyolo Central Constituency, the youth in particular, have all the reasons to smile following the inauguration of the construction works of a K50 million telecentre which is expected to boost internet services in the area.
The telecentre is bankrolled by Malawi Communication Regulatory Authority (MACRA) under Connect a constituency project which aims at providing a seamless ICT connectivity across constituencies in Malawi.
Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony, Minister of Information, Communications and Civic Education Mark Botomani said it is the wish of Government to connect all areas through reliable internet connectivity so that people are able to access services without hiccups.
Botomani said it is the wish of President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika to make sure that all areas across the country have easy access to internet.
He described the construction of the Telecentre as a “game changer” to the people of Thyolo Central because they will be able to connect to the world with a click of a button.
He therefore advised people to own the project until it starts serving them.
Local Government and Rural Development Minister Ben Phiri, who is MP of the area, said the “Government of Professor Mutharika understands that no country can develop if internet penetration is slow.”
“It is the wish of the Malawi Government to make sure that all areas across the country are connected to the internet. We hope that in the near future people will be able to among others buy goods and services from abroad on the internet”
“The majority of people in this area are youths who are very active when it comes to internet usage,” he said.
Senior Chief Nchilamwera said his people have been facing difficulties to access internet services but this will be history soon.
“My people have been facing challenges when it comes to internet connectivity. Young people in this area travel to Blantyre just to access internet services. We thank Government for coming to our rescue,” he said.
