Agriculture Minister Kawale mum on new maize prices

…….12, 640 metric tones ready for distribution

LILONGWE-(MaraviPost)-The overrated Agriculture Minister Sam Kawale on Thursday, August 17, 2023, dodged the media for answering questions on new maize prices after presenting the report in Malawi Parliament.

Kawale told the house that 12,640 metric tones of Maize will be distributed across the country by Thursday, August 25, without indicating new prices of the staple food.

The minister said that the maize will be available to Agricultural Development Markets Cooperation (ADMARC) depots per stated date.

Kawale disclosed in the first phase 10,170 metric tones of maize will go to the Southern region, and 1,150 metric tones to the Central and Northern regions.

He added that the southern region has been prioritized due to the effects of Cyclone Freddy.

Currently, Malawi is running short of Maize coupled with high costs in the range of MK30,000 to MK50,000 for 50 kilograms.

Meanwhile, ADMARC depots are yet to be opened.
