MZUZU-(MaraviPost)-The Anti Quota Movement has given the government a two week ultimatum to nullify the results of the Standard 8 Examinations and end Quota System in the country.
Speaking on Thursday, on delivering a petition to the government after conducting Anti Quota demonstrations in Mzuzu, the Chairperson of the Movement, Dr. Bina Shaba, said government has to give equal access to education to all citizens irrespective of where they come from or their tribes.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology (MoEST), Education Division Manager (EDM) for the Northern Education Division (NED), Mzondi Moyo, said he would submit the petition to the rightful authority but declined to comment further.
Anti Quota Movement is a gropuing of activists in the Northern Region of Malawi who are pushing the government to nullify the 2019 selection of secondary school students; arguing that most of the students from the Northen region were left out.
The Movement also dmands the dismissal of Mr. Limbani Nsapato as a Board member of Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) for making remarks that smack of his loyalty to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
So far, the Movement has held two meetings with the government through the Ministry of Education and MANEB but no response has come yet from the same.
Resultantly, the Movement has held two demonstrations to force the government to respond to its demands.
